Who are SMMT?

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is one of the UK's largest and most influential automotive trade associations, representing vehicle manufacturers and the wider motor industry. SMMT works with international partners on quality management system standards, including IATF 16949, the global quality standard for the automotive supply chain, and supports the worldwide auditor community alongside the International Automotive Oversight Bureau (IAOB).

The challenge

SMMT wanted to help auditors improve by giving them realistic audit scenario videos to learn from, delivered through a training YouTube channel for the IATF 16949 auditor community. At the start there was no channel, no subscribers and no content.

  • Starting from zero: no audience, no back catalogue and no publishing rhythm.
  • Highly technical subject matter: IATF 16949 audit scenarios are complex and high-stakes, and had to be accurate enough for a professional auditor community that would spot any error.
  • International filming logistics: SMMT relies on factories and venues as filming locations, which can be almost anywhere in the world.
  • Multiple languages: IATF work spans many languages, so training had to reach auditors in their own language.

How REAS approached it

REAS built a repeatable production model that turns complex IATF 16949 requirements into clear, watchable training, and keeps the channel publishing consistently rather than in one-off bursts.

  • Content planning. REAS maps audit topics to what the auditor community actually needs, then sets a publishing schedule that builds momentum over time.
  • On-location filming. Audit scenarios are filmed inside real factories and venues across Estonia, Hungary and the UK. REAS handles the equipment, logistics and setup so SMMT's experts can focus on the content, in a calm, low-pressure environment.
  • Accuracy by design. As a BSI ISO 9001 certified production company, REAS brings the systems and processes a standards body needs. The content has to be accurate enough for a professional auditor audience that would spot any error.
  • Multilingual localisation. REAS produces and subtitles the training in 12 languages, so it reaches auditors across the international supply chain in their own language.
  • Distribution and growth. Videos are structured for YouTube discovery and supported across SMMT's channels, with community engagement to bring viewers back.
  • Ongoing channel management. REAS now runs more of the day-to-day channel, from planning through to publishing and reporting.

The results

The IATF 16949 Auditing channel REAS built and runs for SMMT and IAOB grew from an empty page into a trusted global resource for the automotive supply chain.

  • 0 to 12,000+ subscribers on a niche automotive standards channel.
  • 1,000+ videos in 12 languages, filmed worldwide.
  • 6 million+ impressions, building visibility and credibility with auditors, suppliers and OEM stakeholders.
  • A recognised training resource, with positive feedback from the auditor community.
  • Sustained monthly growth, with REAS taking on more of the channel over time.

Why a standards body chose REAS

Standards and certification bodies work with REAS because accuracy and trust are non-negotiable, and because one team covers the whole job. REAS produces video, web, software, analytics and marketing under one roof, is BSI ISO 9001 certified, and already speaks IATF 16949 and the automotive supply chain. The same sector experience sits behind REAS's work for IAOB and BSI.

SMMT
We've been working with REAS Group for five years now. We had an idea of developing a YouTube channel to provide audit scenario videos for auditors. REAS Group were with us right at the beginning, almost before we had a YouTube channel. We had zero subscribers, and you got involved in filming those initial videos. We're now up to 12,000 subscribers, and we've had really positive feedback from the auditor community. We've been to Estonia, Hungary, and filmed in the UK. Your ISO 9001 certification gives us confidence that you've got the systems and processes in place. It's calm, it's fun, it's efficient, and it's fast. We're lucky to have you with us on this journey.
