Video 6: PFMEA Step 6 Optimization

This is some text inside of a div block.

About this lesson

This lesson covers Optimization, the stage where the team defines and implements actions to reduce the risks identified earlier in the FMEA process. Based on the Action Priority rankings from the previous step, the focus is placed on high risk areas to ensure that the effort invested in FMEA leads to real improvements, such as fewer warranty issues and lower costs of poor quality. Using the injection molding case study, the lesson shows how to address a high risk failure mode, such as a robot dropping pins, by assigning clear tasks and introducing technical improvements.

You will learn how to create a prioritized action plan with defined responsibilities and target completion dates. The lesson explains the difference between reducing severity through product changes and reducing occurrence by strengthening process controls. It also demonstrates how to reassess risk after improvements are implemented, for example after installing sensors on a robot, and how updated Action Priority scores support continuous risk reduction.
